Access Policy and Fees

The Michigan Maritime Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Michigan Great Lakes and waterways maritime history and culture. The Museum collects objects related to the maritime history of the Great Lakes with an emphasis on items pertaining to the state of Michigan.

POLICY
Furthering research is an important element of the mission of the Museum. The Library focuses on the study of maritime history and anthropology in Michigan from the prehistoric period to the present

The Museum and Research Llibrary both receive and answer requests for research by phone, e-mail, standard mail and in person.

It is the policy of the Museum and Library to 1) Answer requests within two weeks of receipt of research fees and 2) Direct the patron to other institutions where information may be found if this institution's holdings cannot be of assistance.

FEES
The following fees will be charged for access to collection artifacts for research and/or photographing purposes:

Photos printed on high quality photo paper
Prints of scanned images on cardstock
Photos scanned onto CD
E-mailing of photos (Maximum of 3 photos )
Reproduction of videotapes
Photocopies (MMM reserves the right to refuse to copy material that is too fragile or does not conform to copyright laws)

TERMS OF USE

It is agreed that use of images of collection pieces will be under the following conditions:

1. Payment in full is required at the time of visit or request of the image.
2. An Image Reproduction Letter of Agreement must be signed and returned
   to Museum collections staff.
3. Reproduction arrangements will be made or approved by the Curator.
4. Any image reproduced in any format remains the property of the Michigan Maritime Museum.
5. Images are to be used one time and only for the purpose stated on the Image Reproduction Letter of Agreement. Additional reproduction of the image(s) must be approved in writing.
6. Reproductions may not be superimposed with type matter, used across a fold, or in any way defaced or altered.
7. Credit will appear with each image as follows: Michigan Maritime Museum Collection
8. MMM shall receive a copy of resulting publications free of charge.
