Get your tickets today (in-person or online) for this one-of-a-kind custom built canoe! This cedar strip boat with stunning hummingbird inlay was built by Michigan craftsman Allen Deming of Mackinaw Watercraft and donated to the Museum by Bonny Marx & John Laing. This is art that is truly meant to be used!
The Hummingbird is a Pere Marquette model solo canoe. She is 12’ in length and 28” in the beam, weighing only 32 pounds. She is made in the monocoque style of strip-built boat construction, which results in a lightweight, rugged, and low maintenance vessel. Utilizing Northern White Cedar, Juniper and Tulip Poplar the designer has built an eye-catching hull but the really unique thing about this one-of-a-kind canoe is the namesake hummingbird inlay on the deck. Handcrafted of wood veneer Deming has created a truly special image of a hummingbird visiting a trumpet flower. In style this piece is inspired by Tiffany stained glass.
The drawing will be held at the Museum’s annual Blessing of the Fleet in May. You do not need to be present to win.
The raffle winner will be responsible for the pick up and transport of the boat from the Museum.
